This morning I was greeted by the faces of heroes…
A few days ago a 501(c)(4) educational group, Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, released a powerful and timely video wherein active duty as well as retired military officers, intelligence officers and even Navy SEALs share the reckless abandonment of the present administration.
Their website defines their mission statement as:
STOP the politicians, President Obama and others, from politically capitalizing on US national security operations and secrets!
EDUCATE the public on the importance and necessity of Operational Security in today’s environment.
To Do Nothing is not an option as that allows the special operations and intelligence capabilities to be degraded, and paraded around like a show dog…ACTION IS REQUIRED NOW!
By knowing choosing the political punch of intelligence information over the need for operational security, this administration has put our nation and its military personnel in danger by sharing what amounts to military secrets with the world. The video, which runs approximately 22 minutes, focuses on how Obama and his administration mishandled the death of Osama Bin Laden by not only being too quick to make the news public but also for having given far too much detail into the operational aspects of the raid.
According to these heroes, the Obama Administration chose to announce the death of Osama as soon as possible instead of giving intelligence officials the opportunity to capitalize on the potentially significant amount of intel that was seized at the compound where they found Osama. This shows the OPSEC immaturity of the most senior leaders at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Instead of allowing military and intelligence agents time to develop and exploit this intel and leave the world in the dark on the death of OBL, the Obama Administration wanted to take advantage of the political side of this information and announced it to the dismay of not just military personnel but members of Congress, even some on the left-side of the aisle.
The other side of the coin addresses those who seek and provide the intel. First, it will make the job of those who search for intelligence much more difficult because they will find fewer individuals willing to share information knowing that US politicians would sacrifice an asset for a sound byte on the evening news and the attention of constituents.
It is believed that so much information on the OBL raid was shared (name of unit, location, operational tactics and techniques, etc.) that the lives of those who took part in the raid and their families are now in jeopardy. Knowing the tenacity of our enemy, terrorists will expel an exorbitant amount of effort to track down and destroy these individuals. Now, they and their families live in constant fear of retribution because the Obama Administration used these men as political weapons to boost their approval ratings.
The Pakistani doctor who provided the intel to the US intelligence community is now spending over 30 years in jail for his involvement while President Obama invited members of Hollywood’s A-List to the White House to provide them with details on the raid so a film on the operation could be developed.
The video shares other specific and highly viable intel that the Obama Administration has willfully leaked to the public which has put the intelligence community at a huge deficit on a global level. Tactics, technology and techniques have now been publicize to the extent that they are now seen as obsolete.
The Obama Administration has reacted to this OPSEC group by likening them to the Swift Boat campaign that Vietnam Veterans levied against Senator John Kerry (R-MA) during his 2004 presidential campaign. While an interesting comparison, there is none. Kerry’s situation was based on a he-said, she-said of his exploits as a junior Navy officer during the Vietnam War. In the case of the Obama Administration, there is insurmountable evidence, supported by both sides of the political aisle, expressing utter amazement at the audacity of the White House and the undeniable proof that this administration has little, if any, respect or understanding of the military or our clandestine services.
In contrast, while Obama has no issues with putting the lives of other families in jeopardy, his family is another story. Today while discussing this story with a friend, she shared the debacle at a recent concert of UK boy band One Direction in Fairfax, Virginia attended by one of the first daughters, Malia Obama. Security was so tight that young fans were not only frisked upon entering but they were not allowed to bring in posters, many handmade, to hold up during the concert.
A few years ago, I had the privilege of attending the Evening Parade at the US Marine Corps Barracks at the famed 8th and I Streets in Washington, DC. In attendance that evening were the President and First Lady along with a small entourage. We were required to be in our seats at least an hour prior to the start of the parade and were not allowed to exit the parade grounds until Secret Service members alerted 8th and I officials that the President was safely inside the White House; a wait of approximately 45 minutes.
Now, if our Commander in Chief can understand these security precautions for himself and his family; why can’t he understand them for the men who have made a conscious choice to serve and protect the ideals of the United States of America?
